Bunsei Nanryo 1 Shu Silver 1829-37 MS-62

¥26,000

説明

Detail●The Bunsei Nanryō Ichi-Shugin is a small rectangular silver coin issued by the Tokugawa shogunate between 1829 and 1837.

On the obverse, the inscription 「一朱」 (one Shu) indicates its denomination.
On the reverse, the coin bears the Paulownia crest — an official emblem of the shogunate — and the character 「文」 (Bun), which refers to the Bunsei era.

.

●This coin was created as a small-denomination currency for everyday transactions. Sixteen of these silver coins could be exchanged for one Ryō in gold (1 piece of Koban gold), making it an essential link between silver and gold in the Edo-period monetary system.

.

●Made of Nanryō, a term for highly refined silver of around 98% purity, the coin was trusted for its bright, high-quality silver content. Its purpose was to facilitate small payments while maintaining confidence in the value of the currency.
