Detail●”Mameitagin” was a silver coin circulated during the Edo period (1601-1865).

This Genbun Mameitagin was minted for 82 years (1726-1818). Double-sided Daikoku in this era were usually minted around 3-5 grams, and it is extremely rare if it over 6-10 grams.

●”Double-sided Mameita-gin”
Mameta-gin you see in a market mostly are Single-sided pieces. Since, the value of a silver coinage in Edo-period was in weight standards, so it is only necessary to have a hallmark on one side.

Double-sided Daikoku was very special piece that issued commemoratively for a Shogun. The first work day of the year at the silver-mint, a craftsman mint a Double-sided piece with a first fire in the kiln. It was a gift piece for a Shogun, so most pieces found today are wrapped neatly in a cotton and keeping high preservation.
