| Detail | ●"Mameitagin" was a silver coin circulated during the Edo period (1601-1865). This Ansei Mameitagin was the last type of Mameitagin and only minted for 6 years (1859-1865). For such short period of mintage, not a lot still existing today. Double-sided Daikoku in this era were usually minted around 3-8 grams, and it is extremely rare if it over 10 grams. When the Mameitagin sized over 10g normally refers to “Large Type” and it is differently a high rarity coin that attract many collectors!! ●"Double-sided Mameita-gin" Mameta-gin you see in a market mostly are Single-sided pieces. Since, the value of a silver coinage in Edo-period was in weight standards, so it is only necessary to have a hallmark on one side. Double-sided Daikoku was very special piece that issued commemoratively for a Shogun. The first work day of the year at the silver-mint, a craftsman mint a Double-sided piece with a first fire in the kiln. It was a gift piece for a Shogun, so most pieces found today are wrapped neatly in a cotton and keeping high preservation. Taoism beliefs had strongly related in the background in order to minting Double-sided Daikoku. All things can be categorized into Yin or Yang. To follow this key concept of "Balance" in Taoism, Mameita-gin was struct dies on obverse and reverse.
